Drop into your local Victorian Woolworths this Friday and over the weekend (3rd  to 5th August) to help sick kids at The Royal Children’s Hospital.

Woolworths stores around Victoria are holding a Fresh Fair weekend to support the Good Friday Appeal. Each store is coming up with creative ways to engage their community and would love your support. There will be activities like:

  • Cake stalls
  • Face painting
  • BBQs

  • Raffles

Visit your local store to see what is happening. All proceeds go to the Good Friday Appeal.

Here’s how your support at your local Woolworths store helps The Royal Children’s Hospital

Thanks to the support of the Woolworths community, Educational Play Therapist programs ensure that the hospital experience for children is a positive one. Educational Play therapists meet with children and their families to address some of the of the fears and misconceptions that children often have around their treatment, their condition and the hospital environment itself.

They use role play to familiarise children with their new environment, introduce them to treating teams, explore medical equipment or develop practical strategies to significantly reduce their fear and anxiety.

“We’re all here to benefit the kids during a time when they might feel isolated or afraid. If the Be Positive show can give knowledge that empowers them, or Rocco can bring a kid joy and make them laugh, then that’s a great achievement.” Emre Acar, Rocco puppeteer

Another wonderful program supported by the Woolworths community is Be Positive. This dedicated television channel is produced by The Royal Children’s Hospital Educational Resource Centre and Educational Play Therapy department. Be Positive episodes are available at any time and help children and their families get to know the hospital, meet some of the staff and the technology they may experience while in the hospital’s care. Meet puppets Rocco and Jazz and find out more about Be Positive here.

It is thanks to the generous support across the community that helps The Royal Children’s Hospital remain a world leader in paediatric care.
