A friendly competition between the top two hotels

25th October, 2017

Ron Paterson and Roy Arnold have known each other for more years than they would like to say.

Even though they live over 180 kilometres away from each other, they keep an eye on each other from afar, spurred on by the friendly competition between their two top hotels.

Today, we had the pleasure of presenting Ron Paterson and Browns Corner Hotel manager Ayten Bagdas with second place in the Top Hotel awards for raising an staggering $55,000 for the 2017 Appeal.

We were thrilled to be surprised by Roy Arnold from the Royal Exchange Hotel, Traralgon, who we presented first place fundraising award for the Top Hotel in the State last week for raising over $59,000.

These two ‘absolute legends’ and their dedicated supporters and helpers raised over $114,000 for the 2017 Good Friday Appeal.

“You go and see the kids at The Royal Children’s Hospital and you see what a worthy cause this is,” Mr Paterson said.

Between Ron and Roy they have been dedicated to raising funds for the Good Friday Appeal for over 70 years.

“I remember when the pubs were full of smoke and Roy would come up from Traralgon to celebrate our presentation year after year,” Ron reminisced.

Ron and Atyen accepted the 2nd place award and even as we were walking out the door last year’s third place award was already removed from behind the bar and replaced with this year’s award.

Hotels from around the State gather their communities together to raise funds to support ground breaking research and purchase life saving equipment at The Royal Children’s Hospital. We get to see the very best of people and are honoured to be able to present these awards, read other hotels and pub stories here:
