Together we raised $17,605,662

“After 86 years of fundraising for The Royal Children’s Hospital, the Good Friday Appeal is always overwhelmed by the incredible support of the community and this year we’re thrilled to announce the 2017 midnight fundraising total is $17,605,662!” said Anne Randall, Director of the Good Friday Appeal.
“Today, thousands of communities from across Victoria and beyond have come together to generously support the world-class hospital that is The Royal Children’s Hospital and we sincerely want to thank each and every person who has given up their time and money to the Appeal.”

“We also want to use this opportunity to specially thank all our unbelievable volunteers, tin rattlers, corporate partners, regional Area Managers and fundraisers for putting together another phenomenal Good Friday Appeal,” Ms. Randall said.

The Good Friday Appeal would not have been possible without the support of our partners; Channel Seven, the Herald Sun, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, 3AW, ACE Radio network, Nova FM and Smooth FM. We are also grateful to have had the support of the AFL and the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne football clubs in 2017.

The Good Friday Appeal and AFL are intrinsically linked, with the first Appeal being a football match in 1931, so it was wonderful to see thousands of Victorians head out to the first ever Good Friday AFL match and support both their teams, and the Appeal.

2017 saw another extremely successful Good Friday Appeal at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for its 86th year of fundraising.

“As always, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre was an exceptional host of the 2017 Good Friday Appeal. This year’s Kids Day Out saw thousands of families participate in all of the incredible activities and supporting the Appeal,” Ms Randall said.

“Over 95,000 Victorians joined in the fun at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, with thousands more watching the Channel 7 telecast around the state or visiting a local fundraising event.”

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre Chief Executive, Peter King said the venue was once again honoured to host such a large-scale event that raises important life-changing funds.

“We feel very privileged to welcome the Victorian community through our doors today to support the Good Friday Appeal and help deliver such an incredible result for The Royal Children’s Hospital,” Mr King said.

The year, excitement for the Appeal was heightened with the first-ever Good Friday AFL match between Western Bulldogs FC and North Melbourne FC.

Meanwhile, around the state, thousands of CFA volunteers collected an incredible $1,711,604 million and the inaugural Great Good Friday Appeal Raffle brought in more than $690,000.

From tin shaking and trolley pushing, to the raffles and tokens of today, the Good Friday Appeal thanks Woolworths for their dedication and commitment to The Royal Children’s Hospital. The generous staff and customers of Woolworths have contributed over $20 million over 30 years to this wonderful cause.
Since 1931 the Good Friday Appeal has now contributed more than $327 million to the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Thank you!
